Description
Restored Vintage PLUMB Axe
Some axes are bought because they’re pristine.
This old PLUMB earned its place at Forgotten Steel because it has character.
The head has lived an honest working life, carrying the sort of pitting that only decades of real use can create. Rather than grinding away its history, I’ve carefully restored it into a safe, functional working axe while preserving the marks that make it unique.
One of my favourite features is the handle. At some point in its life, a previous owner grafted a large palm swell onto the end to contrasting timber. It’s an unusual modification that gives the axe incredible character and a surprisingly comfortable feel in the hand. Instead of replacing it with something modern, I’ve chosen to preserve that little piece of its story.
The head has been carefully cleaned, it has a working edge but with the character deviations left intact and finished to bring out the steel while respecting its age. The handle has been refinished with Forgotten Steel Workshop Oil.
This isn’t a museum piece.
It’s a vintage American axe that’s done its time but is still ready to go back to work, whether that’s splitting firewood around camp, tackling jobs around the property or becoming the conversation piece in your workshop that everyone picks up first.
Every axe restored at Forgotten Steel is completed by hand in my workshop here in Australia.
Restore it. Use it. Pass it on.
