These Terms & Conditions are here to protect both you and us. We’ve written them in plain English because we believe buying handcrafted and restored items should be an enjoyable experience, not one buried in legal jargon.
By using this website or purchasing from Forgotten Steel, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
About Forgotten Steel
Forgotten Steel is an Australian business specialising in the restoration, sale and preservation of vintage axes, tools and related products, as well as custom commissions, restoration services and educational resources.
Our Products
Many of the items we sell are genuine vintage tools that have been professionally restored.
Because of their age and history, every piece is unique.
Small imperfections, forging marks, manufacturing variations, historical wear and evidence of previous use are all part of the character of vintage tools and should not be considered defects.
No two restorations will ever be identical.
Product Photos & Descriptions
We make every effort to accurately photograph and describe each item.
The photographs form an important part of the product description.
We encourage you to carefully review all photographs before purchasing.
Colours may vary slightly depending on your screen or device settings.
If you have any questions before purchasing, we’re always happy to help.
Pricing
All prices are displayed in Australian Dollars (AUD) unless otherwise stated.
Prices may change without notice.
Ordering
Once an order has been placed, you’ll receive confirmation by email.
We reserve the right to decline or cancel an order if:
- A pricing error has occurred.
- The product is no longer available.
- Fraudulent activity is suspected.
- We are otherwise unable to fulfil the order.
If payment has already been made, a full refund will be provided.
Shipping
We take great care in packaging every item before it leaves the workshop.
Shipping times may vary depending on your location and the carrier.
Once an order has been handed to the shipping provider, delivery timeframes are outside our control.
If your order arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as possible and include photographs of both the packaging and the item.
Returns & Refunds
Our goal is simple:
We want every customer to be genuinely happy with their purchase.
If there’s a problem, please contact us before leaving feedback or assuming nothing can be done. We’ll always do our best to find a fair and reasonable solution.
Change of Mind
We generally do not offer refunds or exchanges for change of mind.
However, if you contact us promptly, we’ll always see if there’s a practical solution.
Vintage & Restored Items
Unless required by Australian Consumer Law, used, vintage and refurbished items are sold as-is.
Due to their age and unique history:
- They are sold without warranty.
- Normal signs of age, wear and restoration are not considered faults.
- Refunds or exchanges are generally not available because a customer changes their mind after purchase.
Please review all photographs and descriptions carefully before purchasing.
New Products
Any new products sold by Forgotten Steel (such as apparel, accessories or merchandise) are covered by the relevant manufacturer’s warranty where applicable.
Returns for these products will be handled in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.
Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies you may have under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
If a product has a major fault or does not meet the consumer guarantees required by law, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.
These rights cannot be excluded.
Custom Commissions
Commissioned work is created specifically for each customer.
During the design process we’ll discuss:
- Materials
- Finish
- Specifications
- Timeframes
- Pricing
Because commissioned work is personalised, deposits may be required before work begins.
Unless otherwise agreed, deposits are non-refundable once work has commenced or materials have been purchased specifically for your project.
If changes are requested after work has begun, additional charges may apply.
Restoration Services
Customers sending tools for restoration acknowledge that:
- Vintage tools can contain hidden defects.
- Some damage may only become visible during restoration.
- Certain repairs may not be possible.
- Every restoration involves professional judgement and craftsmanship.
We’ll always discuss significant changes with you before proceeding where practical.
Product Availability
Many of our restorations are one-of-a-kind.
Once sold, they may never be available again.
If you’re interested in something similar, we encourage you to contact us about a custom commission or to join our mailing list for future releases.

Unless otherwise stated, all content on this website—including photographs, articles, graphics, logos and written material—is the property of Forgotten Steel.
Content may not be copied, reproduced or used without prior written permission.
